Do you deliver?
Yes! I deliver to London and the Southeast. Delivery costs will apply and will depend on travel time. Typically charges are £30 for London postcodes beginning with N, W and E, with an additional £10 if the congestion charge applies at time of delivery. For South London and counties surrounding Greater London, I can quote you for delivery based on your venue. I will make the final fee clear to you before delivery.
Can I collect my cake instead?
For tiered wedding cakes, I strongly recommend opting for delivery, and in some cases I will insist on this as I'll need to set up your cake at the venue. For single tiered cakes and celebration cakes, you can absolutely collect from my North London kitchen.
What do you need to set up my cake?
Just for there to be a designated recipient at your venue to take delivery and oversee the set-up. Usually this will be someone associated with the venue or the catering staff. I will bring everything I need with me so they don't need to worry about anything. If your venue doesn't have a cake stand, you can hire one from me for a small charge and deposit, which we can discuss at your consultation. One hour is usually sufficient time for me to set up your cake.
What if I don't know what kind of design I want?
Most clients have a rough idea of what they're after in a cake, but if you have absolutely no idea don't worry. At your consultation we'll discuss the themes and colours of your event, look at examples of cakes and draw up some different ideas until we reach a design you're super excited about. Many couples bring along their invitations/save the dates, swatches of the dress or flower lists from the florist for inspiration.
What happens at a cake consultation?
You'll be invited to come along to my North London kitchen to taste some of my signature cake flavours with a cup of tea, or I can come to you if it's easier. Feel free to bring along up to two guests to share the experience. We'll discuss all your ideas and I'll start sketching some designs with you. Once I have a good idea of what you're after, I'll follow up a few days later with final designs - usually three of four - and you can let me know which is your favourite. I will change the final design until you're completely happy with your cake. One consultation is usually sufficient and typically lasts one hour. Consultations are a complimentary part of your wedding cake, however I require £25 to confirm your consultation, which will then be deducted from your wedding cake booking.
What if I want fresh flowers on my cake?
I specialise in sugar flowers, but fresh flowers also look beautiful on a cake and can bring the cost down if you're on a tight budget. I don't supply fresh flowers, but your florist will be able to supply these. Just let them know, or put us in direct contact with each other and we'll handle everything.
What are your most popular flavours?
Lemon & lavender, white chocolate & raspberry and red velvet are always the most popular. Check out my other flavours here, but if there's something special you're after that you don't see here, just let me know and I will create it for you (I love a challenge!). Remember, you don't have to limit yourself to one flavour - each tier can be different.
Do you cater for gluten free?
Yes, I can make a separate version of your cake for your gluten-free guests, or your gluten-free option can be a different flavour if you prefer. Gluten-free cupcakes are also available. If you need any other dietary requirements catered for - e.g. eggless, dairy-free, etc - just let me know at your consultation.
How big are your cake portions?
For weddings and similar events, I estimate number of portions using 1x2 inch servings for sponge cakes and 1x1 inch servings for fruit cake. If you're serving the cake for dessert, or just want bigger portions, let me know and I can advise on how much cake you'll need. Also, my cakes are taller than average, with 4 layers of sponge in each tier.
How much are your cakes?
All my designs are bespoke, so it will greatly depend on the type of cake you order, and the decoration. Generally, a three tier cake covered in fondant starts at £400, and three tier naked cakes start at £320.
If you're watching the pennies, there are several things that can keep costs low, and I can discuss all of these with you at your consultation.
For wedding cakes, a 20% deposit will be required once the final design is agreed.
When should I order my cake?
As all of Caked's cakes are created by Claire, Caked has a limited availability, especially for popular summer dates. Therefore it's recommended to order as soon as you can to secure your date, but try to order at least 3-6 months in advance. If you need it sooner, then please do still get in touch as I may still be able to help you.
For celebration cakes, again the earlier the better, but at least a week in advance is advised. I make all cakes to order, so require time to ensure I have all ingredients and materials to create your dream cake.
How long will my cake keep?
All cakes should keep a few days. Store them in an airtight container to keep them as fresh as possible. All cakes freeze really well, meaning you can enjoy your cake even longer (up to 3 months). Be aware that fondant covered cakes should not be refrigerated!
Fruit cake keeps even longer, and you can store in an airtight container for up to a year.
