Friday Flavours - Strawberry Prosecco

Chances are, you're ordering a cake to celebrate something - perhaps it's your wedding day, a birthday or anniversary - and what better way to celebrate than with bubbles!

Caked's Strawberry Prosecco flavour is everything you want from a celebratory cake. Light vanilla sponge soaked in a prosecco syrup and filled with prosecco buttercream and strawberry conserve. It's light, it's fun and a little bit cheeky!

Friday Flavours - Vanilla Salted Caramel

Salted caramel as a flavour has been a buzz word of the food industry for a few years now. Unlike other trends that may have had their moment (I'm looking at you Cupcakes, Cronuts and Duffins!), salted caramel has proved it is no passing gimmick. 

And there is good reason for that. It just works. 

Cake is sweet, and when you fill or top it with more sweetness from rich buttercream, it can be a little too much for some palates. But with a swirl of salted caramel drizzled on top, or a spoonful (or several!) whipped into buttercream, that saltiness cuts through all those sweet flavours perfectly.

Which is why my Vanilla Salted Caramel is one of my most popular flavours. If you're more of a savoury person, or you're not keen on overly sweet flavours, this one is for you! At Caked, I use a homemade salted caramel to swirl into the buttercream, it's delicious!

Chosen Wedding Fair - this Sunday 8th October

Caked will be exhibiting at the wonderful Chosen Wedding Fair at the Islington Assembly Hall in London this Sunday 8th October!

I can't tell you how excited I am to be exhibiting at this fair, and to meet all the super talented suppliers who will be there alongside me. Chosen handpicks their suppliers and actively supports small businesses in the wedding industry. It really is a lovely group to be a part of.

2017 Wedding Trends

For everyone planning their weddings for this year or next, here's a quick round up of the latest wedding cake trends for this year ...

Metallics

These are going nowhere fast (thankfully, I love a bit of bling!) but with a move away from classic gold and towards deeper richer metallic tones like copper, bronze and pewter.

Romance

It's all about soft flowing fabrics and fluffy blooms in bridal fashion, which is recreated on cakes using soft blooms like peonies and big open roses, delicate blossom and elegant orchids, whether fresh or made from sugar.

Blush

Another long running trend that sees no signs of ceasing. Blush is a classic wedding choice, and is brought to life with touches of metallics or romantic blooms.

Tall, tall, tall

Bring the wow factor to your wedding with a towering centrepiece. The higher the better!

Summery brights

In contrast to the soft romance trend, another big one is bright and beautiful. From subtle touches of bright flowers, to full on colourful blooms, ribbons and pom poms, the brighter the better.

Still Naked

Naked cakes are still hugely popular, and are my most requested wedding cake. There are just so many options, and more importantly no rules! At the moment, I'm obsessed with incorporating metallics with flecks of luxurious gold leaf, and playing around with colours.

Nowadays it's all about the spectacle. Accompanying your tiered cake with a table of sweet treats definitely creates that, and offers your guests more choice. Or consider presenting your cake as separate tiers along with accompanying treats. 


As much as trends are important, don't forget these are not hard and fast rules. Go for what you want and what makes you happy. You never know, what you think sounds crazy could just turn up in next year's trend round-up!

Wedding Cake Consultations with Caked

Fresh from an afternoon of wedding consultations, I'm having a "Wow I love my job" moment! 

Talking to couples about their wedding plans, watching them try my cake tasters and seeing a cake design come together is one of the best parts of being a cake designer (in fact, the only bad part is the washing up, and that's not even too bad).

I'm pretty sure it's one of the best parts of planning your wedding as well. What's better than talking about cake while eating lots of it? 

So for everyone out there planning their wedding, here's what to expect from your cake consultation with Caked, and some tips to get the most out of it.

Firstly, make sure you arrange your consultation at the right time. Once you've arranged your venue and date, you know how many guests you're having, and you have your themes sorted. That's when it's time to book your cake consultation (earlier the better especially for popular Summer dates!)

I understand how hard it is planning a wedding alongside everyday life, so I will happily meet you at weekends or evenings. I host most of my consultations at my North London flat where I run my business from. But if that's not convenient for you, I'm happy to come to you or we can meet for a coffee somewhere in Central London (still with your cake tasters!).

When you arrive for your consultation, it's simply a case of relaxing with a cup of tea or coffee and talking about your wedding. I'll ask about your themes, your plan for the day (i.e. when and where you want your cake), and any other details that are relevant. We'll take a look at some of my previous cake designs for inspiration, plus flick through wedding cake magazines and Pinterest for more ideas. So even if you have no idea what you want for your cake, no worries! I promise we'll create the cake of your dreams.

And of course, if you have lots of ideas, that's great too. Bring along mood boards, Pinterest boards, swatches, postcards, invites - whatever you think will help inspire your cake design.

You'll be able to taste 4-5 different flavours. These are usually my most popular flavours, but if there's a particular flavour you want to try, just let me know and I'll do my best to provide it for you.

Your consultation will usually last just under an hour. Once I have everything I need, I'll work up some designs that I'll send to you a few days afterwards, along with quotes.
