Happy New Year from Caked!

As 2017 comes to a close, I feel an enormous sense of pride looking back over the past year. My little business that started in 2016 has grown so much, and I have huge plans for the next 12 months. Here's a look back at some of the highlights from Caked's 2017...

Weddings

I love a wedding! I had the privilege of making wedding cakes for lots of beautiful couples this year, including a 7 tier showstopper and a Game of Thrones inspired cake complete with sugar dragon on top. Semi-naked cakes were super popular, a trend which looks set to continue for 2018. Here are just a few from this year.

Wedding Fairs

Fairs are a great opportunity to meet suppliers and find inspiration for your big day. I love meeting couples and it allows me to showcase new designs (I always add a slightly daring one in there!)

Next year I'll be at the Chosen Wedding Fair at Islington Town Hall in March, plus more to be confirmed. Stay tuned for more information!

Celebrations

Any celebration needs a cake, and I'm always happy to help. From children's birthdays to anniversaries, a cake will add a sweet touch to any party. Here are some of my favourites from this year!

Classes

I held my very first Caked workshop earlier this year to help raise money for Christians Against Poverty with the lovely Kathryn Thomas. Students learned to make chocolate truffles and decorate Easter biscuits. It was a great day!

2018

Next year is already looking busy for Caked, and I can't wait to get started! Thank you to all my wonderful clients this year. I feel extremely lucky to get to work with such lovely people and help them celebrate all the important moments in their lives.

Happy New Year everyone!

Happy Birthday Caked!

Caked is one year old today!

Caked-One-Year-Old

One year ago today I officially launched my business. I'd been working towards my dream of owning my own cake business for a long long time, but I was finally there. Ready to hit go on the website I'd been working on for two months, and ready to start earning my living doing what I love.

It's been quite a year! There have been surprises, challenges, great times, not so great times, and I definitely spend almost as much time in Excel as I used to working in an office. I've worked with gorgeous couples planning their perfect wedding day, and even more clients to provide cakes for their celebrations and events. I plucked up the courage to exhibit at my very first wedding fair (with the support of my good friend Lisa - thank you!) and can now drive through central London without suffering heart palpitations.

And I've loved every minute. Even the Excel part. And that's because it all contributes to my very own business. I've put my heart and soul into Caked - and into each and every one of my cakes - and will continue to strive to bring the most beautiful and delicious cakes to my lovely customers.

Here's to the next year!

Check out all of my latest wedding cakes here and get in touch here to talk about your upcoming event. I can't wait to hear from you!

Littleton Park House Wedding Fair

Yesterday Caked travelled to Shepperton Studios for the Prestige wedding fair at the beautiful Littleton Park House.

Littleton Park House, Shepperton Studios

The venue was beautiful, with a nice balance of a large bright conservatory room and period details of the main house. Be sure to check it out if you're looking for a venue in the Surrey area.

As usual, the Caked stand was looking bright and sparkly, with lots of delicious treats to entice couples!

Littleton Park House Wedding Fair - Caked stand

I always like to debut a brand new naked cake design at wedding fairs, and this one has to be my favourite so far. I experimented with pastel-coloured buttercream and gold leaf, and I love the effect. Paired with some beautiful bright blooms, this cake was very popular yesterday!

Pastel & Gold Naked Wedding Cake

It was great to meet all the lovely couples planning their weddings and talk about their dream wedding cakes.

As always, I met some amazing fellow wedding suppliers. Here are just a small selection:

Sugar For My Honey - Who doesn't want a sweet cart at their wedding? For all your sweet cart needs, check them out here: www.sugarformyhoney.co.uk

4 To The Floor - their music kept us entertained all day! For all your wedding band classics check them out here: www.tailored-entertainment.com

Littleton Park House Wedding Fair - this Sunday!

I'm excited to see the venue as this will be my first time here. The venue is within Shepperton Studios just outside London. It's completely free to enter, so it's a great chance to have a walk around a beautiful venue and chat to some wedding suppliers about your big day.

And of course, don't forget to stop by the Caked stand for lots of sweet treats and my latest wedding cake designs!

Heatherden Hall Wedding Fair

Yesterday I packed up Caked and travelled to Pinewood Studios for the Prestige wedding fair at Heatherden Hall.

Heatherden-hall-wedding-fair

Heatherden Hall is a beautiful venue with little touches of the silver screen around every corner. If you're looking for a beautiful art deco venue be sure to check this place out.

I had a great day chatting to lots of lovely couples about their wedding cakes. As always there was a lot of interest in naked cakes, with this little one on display.

As always, wedding fairs are a great opportunity to meet fellow wedding suppliers, and there were some fabulous suppliers exhibiting yesterday. Here are just a few...

Oyster & Pearls - the lovely Sarah makes beautiful little favour boxes using an array of gorgeous prints. Check them out here: www.oystersandpearls.co.uk

Jamberry - beautiful nail wraps perfect for your big day. Kelly treated me to a tester and I love it! Plus they're great for cake making as they don't chip! kellym.jamberry.com

Unbelievable Magic - Ben demonstrated a trick that quite frankly flummoxed me. How he did it has been annoying me ever since (in a good way!) Check him out here: www.unbelievablemagic.com

I'll be announcing my next wedding fair in a few days so look out for it! In the meantime, check out all my latest wedding cakes here.

Heatherden Hall Wedding Fair - Sunday 19th February

Caked will be returning to the fantastic Prestige Wedding Fair this Sunday at Heatherden Hall, Pinewood Studios. If you're in the area, pop by to check out all of the wonderful wedding suppliers who will be exhibiting. And of course, stop by Caked's stand to see my latest designs and tuck into some delicious tasters!

Heatherden Hall Wedding Fair

And the best thing? It's completely free! Heatherden Hall is also a fascinating place to wander around, and you can get married there. So it's a great opportunity to visualise your wedding day.

So come on down if you can, I look forward to chatting cake with you!

Bring on 2017!

Happy New Year everyone!

The general consensus of 2016 may have been pretty bad, but I think it's important not to dwell too much on the negative and remember all the good things that have happened. It definitely was a tough year at times, but one of the greatest things in my 2016 was officially launching Caked.

Caked wedding fair - Claire Thomas

After years of falling in love with baking, practising, training and graduating as a pastry chef I finally launched Caked in June this year. It's been a true labour of love, and I've loved every minute!

I have been lucky enough to have had some amazing clients this year, and I've loved getting to know my couples through consultations and wedding fairs. Not one wedding cake has been the same, and I'm already looking forward to lots more weddings this year.

Iced biscuit favours have been hugely popular as well - some even travelled all the way to Italy (amazingly without any breakages!)

It hasn't all been about weddings though - I've loved helping people celebrate their other momentous occasions with cakes made into books, dinosaurs, aeroplanes...including my latest Christmas cake below.

Christmas Lights Christmas Cake

In November I launched my first Caked menu - the Winter menu was a huge success and I felt like a little Christmas elf delivering boxes of cakes all over London.

Caked Branded Mini Cakes

So what does 2017 have in store for Caked? For the moment, it's looking like lots more weddings, wedding fairs and a Spring menu on the way, to name but a few. But it's all the unexpected things I'm looking forward to the most. Bring on 2017, and I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year!

Prestige Wedding Fair at Heatherden Hall, Pinewood Studios

Last Sunday I had the pleasure of exhibiting at the Prestige Wedding Fair at Heatherden Hall, Pinewood Studios.

Caked Stand Heatherden Hall Wedding Fair

I met lots of lovely couples looking for the finishing touches to their wedding, and some looking for inspiration for their 2018 weddings.

Heatherden Hall is a beautiful venue, and I spoke to lots of couples who were actually getting married there (if your wedding venue is holding a wedding fair, it's a great idea to go along to help visualise the day!).

I also met lots of talented and inspiring fellow wedding suppliers on Sunday, so I feel I have to share them with you here!

Fabulous Suppliers

AKA Party & Wedding Band - the lovely and talented Matt will help get your party started! Check out his amazing band here: www.akafunction.co.uk

I'm delighted to announce that Caked will be exhibiting at the Heatherden Hall wedding fair this Sunday!

Set within the iconic Pinewood Studios, Heatherden Hall is a beautiful wedding venue, with all the glitz and glamour you'd expect from a film studio.

I'll be showcasing some new cake designs and there'll be tasters for everyone, including some very special edible gifts to take away with you!

I can't wait to meet and chat to all the lovely couples that will be there. It's free entry, from 11am until 3:30pm so hopefully see you there!

Valentines Mansion Wedding Fair

Sunday was Caked's very first wedding fair! The venue was the beautiful Valentines Mansion & Gardens in Ilford, Essex - a stunning venue for a wedding.

After weeks of hard work designing new cakes, making the cakes, and planning my stand, finally came the time to pack up my little car and head off to Essex with my good friend Lisa who was kindly helping me out for the day. Setting up my stand was so much fun, and exciting to see it finally come to life.

Valentines Wedding Fair - Stand

The best part of the day was meeting the other wedding suppliers exhibiting at the fair and of course, meeting all the lovely couples planning their weddings. The standout cake was definitely the naked cake decorated with fresh roses and seasonal fruit - people are absolutely loving naked cakes at the moment and it looks like this will continue into next year as I've already had plenty of enquiries requesting them.

All in all, a great day, and I'm already looking forward to taking Caked to more wedding fairs soon. Stay tuned for more info!

You can see all my latest wedding cake and favour designs here, but remember all cakes are designed especially for you. Get in touch here to start planning yours with Caked!
