A Weekend of Weddings

Last weekend, I had the busiest few days of Caked so far!

With three weddings in one weekend, it was definitely a test of my stamina. Wedding season is truly underway.

What I loved most about last weekend was the variety of the cakes - each one was completely different, and that's what I love most about my job.

Friday's cake was a beautiful 3 tier semi-naked cake decorated with fresh gypsophila (one of my favourite fresh flowers for cakes!). A hand-made sugar topper in the shape of the Chinese Double Happiness symbol sat on top surrounding by the delicate fluffy blooms. All tiers were vanilla sponge with different flavour fillings - coffee, raspberry and pistachio - with their different colours glimpsing through the buttercream slightly.

Congratulations to the happy couple Mark & Ting on their wedding day at Morden Hall!

Saturday's cake was a peach fondant-covered 3 tier cake decorated with gorgeous fresh flowers. Each tier was dusted with a light sheen and finished with decorative piping and pretty bow ribbons. Flowers provided by Lalage Barren Flowers.

Congratulations to Emilia & Toby on their wedding day at Ognisko Restaurant, Knightsbridge!

The weekend culminated in the biggest cake of all - a 7 tier showstopper decorated with all the places the happy couple have travelled to in their time together, all made in sugar of course. Their dream was to have a tall narrow cake, and that's certainly what they got! With details such as the Eiffel Tower, Moulin Rouge, Statue of Liberty, Ayers Rock, the Rocky Mountains and their cute dogs, this was such a fun cake to make!

And to add to the wow factor, the inside was rainbow sponge!

To add to their travel theme even further, they had adorable biscuit favours decorated as suitcases complete with travel tags of their honeymoon destination - Key West. I loved these!

Huge congratulations to all my couples from last weekend!

Bright Blooms Wedding Cake

Last week I had the pleasure of delivering a wedding cake to the beautiful Kensington Roof Gardens.

The Roof Gardens looked stunning with brightly coloured ribbons and flowers in amongst all the picture-perfect features they're famous for, and of course the flamingos! Such a gorgeous theme for a Spring wedding.

The cake was right in keeping with the theme. With two tiers of White Chocolate & Raspberry and a tier of my ever popular Red Velvet, it was barely masked in delicious white chocolate buttercream and decorated with stunning bright blooms from The Colour Green florist. A stunner for a bright Spring day!

2017 Wedding Trends

For everyone planning their weddings for this year or next, here's a quick round up of the latest wedding cake trends for this year ...

Metallics

These are going nowhere fast (thankfully, I love a bit of bling!) but with a move away from classic gold and towards deeper richer metallic tones like copper, bronze and pewter.

Bronze Bright Flowers Wedding Cake

Romance

It's all about soft flowing fabrics and fluffy blooms in bridal fashion, which is recreated on cakes using soft blooms like peonies and big open roses, delicate blossom and elegant orchids, whether fresh or made from sugar.

Elegant Orchid Wedding Cake

Blush

Another long running trend that sees no signs of ceasing. Blush is a classic wedding choice, and is brought to life with touches of metallics or romantic blooms.

Romantic Pink Peony Wedding Cake

Tall, tall, tall

Bring the wow factor to your wedding with a towering centrepiece. The higher the better!

6 tier white & bronze wedding cake

Summery brights

In contrast to the soft romance trend, another big one is bright and beautiful. From subtle touches of bright flowers, to full on colourful blooms, ribbons and pom poms, the brighter the better.

Bright Print Frangipani Wedding Cake

Still Naked

Naked cakes are still hugely popular, and are my most requested wedding cake. There are just so many options, and more importantly no rules! At the moment, I'm obsessed with incorporating metallics with flecks of luxurious gold leaf, and playing around with colours.

Cake tables

Nowadays it's all about the spectacle. Accompanying your tiered cake with a table of sweet treats definitely creates that, and offers your guests more choice. Or consider presenting your cake as separate tiers along with accompanying treats.

As much as trends are important, don't forget these are not hard and fast rules. Go for what you want and what makes you happy. You never know, what you think sounds crazy could just turn up in next year's trend round-up!

Littleton Park House Wedding Fair

Yesterday Caked travelled to Shepperton Studios for the Prestige wedding fair at the beautiful Littleton Park House.

Littleton Park House, Shepperton Studios

The venue was beautiful, with a nice balance of a large bright conservatory room and period details of the main house. Be sure to check it out if you're looking for a venue in the Surrey area.

As usual, the Caked stand was looking bright and sparkly, with lots of delicious treats to entice couples!

I always like to debut a brand new naked cake design at wedding fairs, and this one has to be my favourite so far. I experimented with pastel-coloured buttercream and gold leaf, and I love the effect. Paired with some beautiful bright blooms, this cake was very popular yesterday!

Pastel & Gold Naked Wedding Cake

It was great to meet all the lovely couples planning their weddings and talk about their dream wedding cakes.

As always, I met some amazing fellow wedding suppliers. Here are just a small selection:

Heatherden Hall Wedding Fair

Yesterday I packed up Caked and travelled to Pinewood Studios for the Prestige wedding fair at Heatherden Hall.

Heatherden Hall is a beautiful venue with little touches of the silver screen around every corner. If you're looking for a beautiful art deco venue be sure to check this place out.

I had a great day chatting to lots of lovely couples about their wedding cakes. As always there was a lot of interest in naked cakes, with this little one on display.

As always, wedding fairs are a great opportunity to meet fellow wedding suppliers, and there were some fabulous suppliers exhibiting yesterday. Here are just a few...

Oyster & Pearls - the lovely Sarah makes beautiful little favour boxes using an array of gorgeous prints. Check them out here: www.oystersandpearls.co.uk

Jamberry - beautiful nail wraps perfect for your big day. Kelly treated me to a tester and I love it! Plus they're great for cake making as they don't chip! kellym.jamberry.com

Unbelievable Magic - Ben demonstrated a trick that quite frankly flummoxed me. How he did it has been annoying me ever since (in a good way!) Check him out here: www.unbelievablemagic.com

I'll be announcing my next wedding fair in a few days so look out for it! In the meantime, check out all my latest wedding cakes here.

Time to get Naked...

Naked cakes have been around for a few years now, and the trend is going nowhere.

They're a popular choice for wedding cakes, as they're generally cheaper than fondant-covered cakes (depending what goes on them of course!) and they look stunning, whether adorned with mountains of fruit, flowers, macarons and drizzles, or left plain and simple.

Naked cakes are so easy to adapt to your colour and flower themes, and if you're using fruit as decoration, it's beautifully simple to represent the current season.

In short, there's a naked cake for everyone, and the combinations are endless.

Here's my latest (almost) naked cake - vanilla sponge masked in a thin layer of vanilla buttercream and decorated with bright pink roses, rose leaves and fresh seasonal fruit (figs, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, physalis).

Valentines Mansion Wedding Fair

Sunday was Caked's very first wedding fair! The venue was the beautiful Valentines Mansion & Gardens in Ilford, Essex - a stunning venue for a wedding.

After weeks of hard work designing new cakes, making the cakes, and planning my stand, finally came the time to pack up my little car and head off to Essex with my good friend Lisa who was kindly helping me out for the day. Setting up my stand was so much fun, and exciting to see it finally come to life.

Valentines Wedding Fair - Stand

The best part of the day was meeting the other wedding suppliers exhibiting at the fair and of course, meeting all the lovely couples planning their weddings. The standout cake was definitely the naked cake decorated with fresh roses and seasonal fruit - people are absolutely loving naked cakes at the moment and it looks like this will continue into next year as I've already had plenty of enquiries requesting them.

All in all, a great day, and I'm already looking forward to taking Caked to more wedding fairs soon. Stay tuned for more info!
