Introducing the Caked Studio

For the last few weeks I’ve enjoyed settling into my brand new studio, and I’ve been loving it!

After relocating my business from London to Dorset, I decided now was the time to create a dedicated cake space. I wanted somewhere that I could store all of my cake equipment and ingredients (there’s a lot!) and host consultations in a relaxed atmosphere.

As always with these kinds of projects, the final version ended up quite a bit bigger than the original plan, but I couldn’t be happier with my little cake studio. I enlisted Garden Affairs for the build and can’t recommend them enough (there’s a link to their website at the bottom of this post). They were so quick and efficient, and understood my vision perfectly.

Since the build, friends and family have been helping me paint and add all the finishing touches to make it my little cakey haven. Thank you to everyone that has been involved!

I’m now super excited to reveal all the hard work!

Come and see the studio by booking a wedding cake consultation or ordering a cake for collection (all by appointment only). Caked is located just outside of Shaftesbury, Dorset.

Garden Affairs design and build the most beautiful garden buildings, from sheds to actual mini houses! The designs are beautiful as well as functional, and the team are fabulous. Check out their website here:

Happy Birthday Caked!

Caked is one year old today!

One year ago today I officially launched my business. I'd been working towards my dream of owning my own cake business for a long long time, but I was finally there. Ready to hit go on the website I'd been working on for two months, and ready to start earning my living doing what I love.

It's been quite a year! There have been surprises, challenges, great times, not so great times, and I definitely spend almost as much time in Excel as I used to working in an office. I've worked with gorgeous couples planning their perfect wedding day, and even more clients to provide cakes for their celebrations and events. I plucked up the courage to exhibit at my very first wedding fair (with the support of my good friend Lisa - thank you!) and can now drive through central London without suffering heart palpitations.

And I've loved every minute. Even the Excel part. And that's because it all contributes to my very own business. I've put my heart and soul into Caked - and into each and every one of my cakes - and will continue to strive to bring the most beautiful and delicious cakes to my lovely customers.

Here's to the next year!

Check out all of my latest wedding cakes here and get in touch here to talk about your upcoming event. I can't wait to hear from you!

Caked Charity Masterclass

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of hosting my very first Caked Masterclass!

Five eager and excited ladies came down to a gorgeous barn kitchen in Great Bookham ready to learn how to make chocolate truffles and iced biscuits - just in time for Easter. The event was held to raise money for Christians Against Poverty - a great opportunity to support a very worthy charity.

We made simple rolled truffles, starting with a ganache and then later getting stuck in to roll the truffles, coat in cocoa powder and decorate. My students also learned how to pipe biscuit outlines, flood ice their biscuits and play around with colours and techniques to create beautifully decorated biscuits.

Check out my ganache demonstration below...

The results were pretty impressive, especially as no one in the class had ever tried working with royal icing or made chocolate truffles before.

Everyone was amazed at how easy the chocolate truffles were to make - don't they look delicious? We made dark chocolate rose truffles and milk chocolate orange blossom truffles, using dried rose petals, pistachios and edible glitter to decorate.

During the break we hosted an afternoon tea complete with tea and scones, jam and clotted cream.

A huge thank you to Kathryn who was the mastermind behind this event and did a fantastic job of organising everything. Kathryn is raising money for CAP, a charity dedicated to helping people out of poverty through debt counselling, life skills and help with addictions.
